Could you offer life-changing spiritual and pastoral care at the heart of a growing regional charity?

Could you inspire our volunteers and Church partners to do the same?

Yes? We want to hear from you!

The Chaplaincy Team operates across all of One YMCA Services, offering spiritual and pastoral support to all service users, staff and volunteers. We have a growing team of dedicated volunteer Chaplains, who provide life-transforming care either 1-to-1 or through group activities.

Chaplaincy is a vital part of the Christian Mission team which is at the heart of this growing charity. As a team we influence our organisational culture and strategy, provide training that helps us connect authentically with each other and pray for God’s leading and direction.

This is an exciting time for us in the Christian Mission team at One YMCA as we further expand our Chaplaincy Team. We are planning for growth and strengthening partnerships over the next five years as we grow in line with a vision to help more people in this region live life to the full.

We offer flexible working hours to accommodate your schedule. Whether you're looking for full-time, part-time, or adjustable hours, we are open to finding a work arrangement that suits your needs while ensuring productivity and teamwork

The Role:
• Directly offer life-transforming spiritual care and pastoral support including Christian prayer and leading acts of Christian worship. Recruit, support, enable and co-ordinate Chaplaincy or Christian Mission volunteers to do the same.
• Work with the Chaplaincy & Support Team Leader and Head of Christian Mission to develop and implement Christian engagement activities, including a small group programmes (which may include peer support, discussion based or our in-house retreat programme), that reflect One YMCA’s Christian Mission and Vision. Recruit, induct and co-ordinate volunteers to deliver the small group programme.
• Develop and maintain relationships with Churches, individual Christians and other faith-based agencies and communities, in order to fulfil One YMCA’s Christian Mission.
• Recruit, induct and line manage volunteers to meet annual or monthly KPI targets. The post holder is expected to have a `hands on’ approach to line management and support of volunteers.
• Work towards and achieve the agreed Key Performance Indicators and performance objectives and ensure a high level of service is provided at all times.

Requirements:
• Excellent understanding of the Christian faith and significant experience of providing spiritual and pastoral support to others from a Christian perspective
• Relevant theological / vocational training (desirable)
• Access to a vehicle for travel, along with business insurance to cover work-related travel. You must have a full Great Britain driving licence

We are looking for someone to deliver exceptional care, model it to others and enable our volunteer Teams and Church partners to thrive in their calling across central, north and east Hertfordshire.

We have included our ‘Theory of Change’ for Chaplaincy and a copy of our Church Partners leaflet which gives you a taste of the scale and nature of our work in partnership with others.
We want you to know that it’s important to us that everyone in our team has space to develop their skills, use their gifts and bring their creativity into the care we offer.

One YMCA and its subsidiaries, the Early Childhood Partnership (ECP) and Signpost are on an exciting journey to double our impact by 2025. We are over half way through an exciting new strategy launched in the first hour of the new decade, via email where all staff and volunteers were invited to put themselves forward to apply and attend an intensive, three-day Kickstarter Event.

By the end of these three days, there was a brilliantly multi-faceted set of themes and ideas, which formed the starting point for the rest of the Mission 25 process to build on. The aim of Mission 25 is to give every staff member and volunteer the opportunity to play their part in shaping the strategy to do “more and better, together” so that we double our impact by 2025. We deliver a vast array of services across Herts, Beds and Bucks that reach over 135,000 individuals annually.

These include:

  • Provision of over 700 units of accommodation for homeless people
  • Move on accommodation for individuals moving onto independent living
  • Housing and practical/emotional support for young asylum seekers
  • Community HUBs hosting a range of activities and meeting space hire
  • Childcare provision in Hertfordshire
  • Family support through a network of children’s and family centres covering Hertfordshire and Bedford
  • Therapeutic and non-therapeutic support for male and female victims of domestic abuse and their children
  • Independent sexual violence services across Bedfordshire, Luton and Hertfordshire
  • Domestic abuse perpetrator reform programmes across Bedfordshire
  • Youth services offering emotional wellbeing support and youth club opportunities for 11-19 year olds alongside our National Airplay programme funded by the RAF Benevolent Fund
  • A community gym where everyone can enjoy the benefits of physical exercise Our values remain at the forefront of how we operate as a charity, and it is important to us that all staff and volunteers can fully buy in to our ethos.
