Maintenance Operative - Painter and Decorator (12 Month FTC)

This is a Fixed Term, Full Time vacancy that will close in {x} days at {xx:xx} BST.

We are seeking an experienced x2 Painter and Decorators to join our Place and Environment team on a 12 month FTC.

As a qualified Painter Decorator, you will have the relevant training, experience, and trade skills to cover a wide range of indoor and outdoor painting, decorating and repairs. You will maintain and improve our places through routine maintenance cycles alongside those caused by damage or other causes, including responsive/emergency repairs or renewal works. You will ensuring that the repairs required are diagnosed correctly and works completed are to a high standard and quality. This role also requires the monitoring and inspecting of works in progress including site audits.


You will be accountable for:
• Delivering a service which understands the needs of our beneficiaries and delivers a positive outcome for them.
• Being professional, courteous, empathetic, adaptable, self-motivated, take pride and ownership of your work, able to resolve problems you encounter, delivering a high-quality repair and providing an excellent customer experience every time.
• Adhering to all policies, procedures, regulatory requirements, processes, controls, systems, required training and record keeping. Ensuring that we operate in a safe, customer centric, environmentally ethical, and accountable way. Meeting and/or exceeding performance targets, understanding and mitigating risk.
• Attending all required training, toolbox talks, one to ones and appraisals, Embracing the opportunity for challenge, personal growth, and development. Engaging with other team members as required.
• Ensuring that all charity owned property is properly maintained, cared for, respected, and always remains fit for purpose.
• Maximising your first-time fix rate and daily productivity level. Delivering a high standard of workmanship, quality, and customer experience. You will ensure that van stocks are maintained, and source other materials required in a timely fashion to meet the service needs & performance targets
• Liaising and communicating with managers, supervisors, schedulers, other colleagues, and customers whilst undertaking your duties to ensure we deliver on our promises and provide our customers with a first-class repairs service.
• On occasion, provide guidance, coaching, training and management of apprentices who join the P&E team, liaising with college placement tutors to ensure individuals have the exposure to the workplace experiences required.
• Play an active role in our internal Project Futures Programme which is designed to provide our residents and service users with practical work related experience.
• You will also be expected to bring the skills and experience to deal with more basic jobs outside of your specialism such as general maintenance requests where required.

Please note to be considered for this role you will need a full UK driving licence, a vehicle and tools will be provided.

The aim of Mission 25 is to give every staff member and volunteer the opportunity to play their part in shaping the strategy to do “more and better, together” so that we double our impact by 2025. We deliver a vast array of services across Herts, Beds and Bucks that reach over 135,000 individuals annually.

These include:

  • Provision of over 700 units of accommodation for homeless people
  • Move on accommodation for individuals moving onto independent living
  • Housing and practical/emotional support for young asylum seekers
  • Community HUBs hosting a range of activities and meeting space hire
  • Childcare provision in Hertfordshire
  • Family support through a network of children’s and family centres covering Hertfordshire and Bedford
  • Therapeutic and non-therapeutic support for male and female victims of domestic abuse and their children
  • Independent sexual violence services across Bedfordshire, Luton and Hertfordshire
  • Domestic abuse perpetrator reform programmes across Bedfordshire
  • Youth services offering emotional wellbeing support and youth club opportunities for 11-19 year olds alongside our National Airplay programme funded by the RAF Benevolent Fund
